A few weeks ago my Facebook news feed was bombarded by fellow nurses posting this:
The Bachelors of Science Nursing (BSN) degree has been chosen as the toughest degree among all the college degrees by the Guinness Book of World Records on 18 MAY 2011. It has 64 university exams + 130 series exams + 174 assignments within 4 years (max 1000 working days ). All BS nurses post this on your wall for at least 2 hours and be proud to be a BSN degree holder.
Have you seen this or reposted it? When I first read it I thought, “Sure, nursing school has to be the hardest!” But then I started to think about all of the other programs out there and wondered if it really was harder than an engineering degree, for example. I looked on the Guinness Book of World Records website and could find no information on whether this was true or not. According to http://www.snopes.com (a website dedicated to determining whether rumors or true or false), this claim is false. They state that the Guinness Book of World Records does not rate degrees as “toughest” as it is nearly impossible to prove it without a doubt.
So for most of us who have managed to survive getting a BSN, I guess we will still have to argue with our friends and family that it is indeed very hard, without having a record to prove it.

Hi! I'm a former BSN then shifted my course to IT. Not because it's tough or something like that, but demand for nursing is slowly going down.
We need to be aware of these rumors if they're true or false.
Very well said. Nursing is hard but not the hardest. It's not the peak course. There are more hard courses out there.
It's unfortunately a hoax; although I happen to agree! :-) Snopes.com is always a good place to check if you want verification of these types of "urban legends". Guinness Book doesn't rank coursework by degree of difficulty.
