When I first started looking into nursing schools, I spent nearly a month investigating nursing schools abroad. There are so many opportunities for nurses to travel not only after finishing school, but also while going to school. How great would it be to learn how to be a nurse while learning about and living in a different culture?
Travelling abroad is a wonderful way to expand your horizons and learn how to become culturally-sensitive and savvy. As a student nurse, studying abroad will give you perspective on how international health systems function as well as a look into public health nursing in that region.
Many nursing schools around the country offer study abroad programs throughout the world. Some schools offer a semester or summer abroad, while others place you abroad for your entire nursing school education. If you are interested in studying abroad, look into local state universities and private nursing schools. I would not recommend going to a foreign nursing school without the backing of an American university, as the credentials will not be the same when you return.
You may have to pay the price for this amazing experience, but I’m sure that the education and growth you will experience will be well worth it. Many schools even offer scholarships and financial aid specifically to students wishing to travel abroad.
Please share any stories you may have about studying nursing abroad. I’m sure we would all love to hear your adventures!
